Mikey, who works as an apprentice technician at MSP Global, is carving out an impressive career as he focuses on developing his skills in creative lighting.
Despite joining MSP Global less than a year ago, he is already playing a vital role in staging major events including two award ceremonies in London and a Strictly Come Dancing- style charity event at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.
His employers Lisa Richards and Colin Reader are so impressed with Mikey that they have entered him into the city’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ awards.
Lisa, a director at MSP Global, urged other Merseyside employers to consider recruiting apprentices during the recent National Apprenticeship Week.
“We are passionate about supporting apprentices and have worked with Liverpool Community College to open up opportunities to young people,” she said.
“We are delighted to have Mikey, he is such as asset to our company. We are really impressed with the way he juggles a demanding apprenticeship course with working long hours on special events for us.
“He is hungry to learn, is conscientious, honest and keeps a level head, crucial when you are working as part of a team on live shows.”
Apprenticeships are forecast to contribute £3.4bn to the economy by 2022, according to a recent report from the Centre of Economics and Business Research.
The company employed another apprentice Liam Stuchberry, from St Helens, who has since been appointed to a permanent post.
“As a company MSP Global has always been involved in moulding young technicians to become professional all rounders within our industry,” added Lisa.
“Apprentices are a real asset and we are pleased to be able to support them in this way.”
Established in 2000, MSP Global is a market-leader for audio-visual equipment, staging and production services across the UK and internationally.
