Winning Safety Poster Tells Teen Workers “Don’t Be a Statistic”

Sixteen-year-old Shari Coté of Taunton, Mass., designed the winning poster. The eye-catching poster, which features a row of injured figures with crutches, eye patches, slings and bandages, reads: “200,000 young workers are injured annually. Don’t be a statistic.” This poster, created by 16-year-old Shari Coté, won first place in the third annual Massachusetts Safe Jobs for Youth poster contest. According to the latest available Massachusetts Department of Public Health data, teens in the Commonwealth under age 18 racked up 3,400 emergency department visits for work-related injuries from 2005 to 2009. N-Vest finalises Promethean training deal

Poisoning kills more than 35,000 people a year in the United States – that’s more than the deaths attributed annually to car crashes nationwide. In honor of National Poison Prevention Week, a new infographic offers poisoning statistics and safety tips. Children are the most likely to experience poisoning, with half of all poisonings occurring within children under the age of 6. Nine out of ten poisoning deaths, however, occur within adults over the age of 20. NHS Trust in Manchester installs Saturn digital signage

Four 55in LCD screens have  been installed in Manchester Royal Infirmary’s A&E department. Suspended from the ceiling, the screens have been synchronised to play the same content at exactly the same time. The signage system feeds a combination of TV programmes and the hospitals’ own content while a live ticker displays information, such as waiting times and the status of various clinics. Are Wal-Mart’s Clothes Washed in Blood? New Report Analyzes Two Garment Factory Fires in Bangladesh and Pakistan

Wal-Mart labels were found in the burned-down Tazreen Fashions factory, where at least 112 workers lost their lives.
