New user tech for Tyneside Metro

With a £25 million modernisation of 60 Metro stations across the UK’s Tyneside region underway, specialist Scheidt & Bachmann is replacing over 200 ticket machines with new, more sophisticated versions that boast advanced functionality. The new machines are capable of accepting credit/debit card and smartcard payment as well as cash, with support for six different languages helping to enhance the overall user experience. Their touchscreen user interfaces will make the ticket purchasing process faster and more intuitive – thereby maximising each station’s operational efficiency. The schools, in County Offaly, Ireland, are taking advantage of two new initiatives – Beyond the Walls and Beyond the Seas. Teaching an Applied Maths class via vcon With teaching being done via LifeSize’s realtime video conferencing (Beyond the Walls), specialist teachers from one school can broadcast to five others in the region. Passing of Community CEO

Dorwart became audio manufacturer  Community’s ceo in March and led the company through its introduction of several new products at InfoComm. Community’s Tim Dorwart His previous roles included director and vp positions with Bose Corporation and DMX Music. Since 2007, he had led the Stanton Group through a successful turnaround as their ceo. Dorwart came to Community from Gibson Guitar Corporation where he was general manager, Pro Audio and guided the integration of Stanton Group assets to form Gibson’s new Pro Audio Division. Post-Traumatic Stress Risk to Police Lower Than Previously Thought

New research from the Institut de Recherche Robert-Sauvé en Aanté et en Sécurité du Travail (IRSST) on the risk and protective factors of post-traumatic stress reactions in Quebec police officers found that despite the nature of their work, they experience no higher levels of post-traumatic stress disorder than the general population. The study, “Predictors of Posttraumatic Stress Disorders in Police Officers – Prospective Study,” also confirms that symptoms associated with the development of PTSD in police officers can be attenuated or prevented with specific and adapted intervention.
